Let me tell you how the Lord provided on Thanksgiving Day…….
My husband and I live in a cute 1400 square foot home located on a 1/4 acre lot in an older suburban neighborhood. The yard has a mixture of mature trees but still allows plenty of sunlight so I can grow pretty flowers. The small kitchen has updated appliances and countertops. The old cabinets need to be upgraded though as well as many other parts of the house.
I fell in love with this house the first time I saw it. It had that mixture of just enough updates for now while leaving room for my love of renovation for the future. The cozy feeling of our home is satisfying.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays to host. We have about 18 family members who switch back and forth between us and their spouses’ families to go to for Thanksgiving. So, I don’t always have the whole gang coming on any given year.
This Thanksgiving was different though. Everyone said they could come! I was elated! I love it when we can all get together. I was grateful we could all be at my home. I was grateful for this home the Lord has provided for us.
But as Thanksgiving got closer and I was trying to figure out the logistics of putting up extra tables and how we would fit each chair around the tables comfortably, I started to get a little anxious. I truly wanted everyone to have a good time and not feel cramped.
Here’s the part where I should have taken that anxious feeling to the Lord right there and then. But I didn’t. Still, God is good.
We did our best, moved some furniture out to the garage, and set up the tables and chairs. Then we made a plan for after dinner. But we didn’t even need to go to the “after dinner plan.” The Lord had His plans. He made the day so perfect and beautiful that it called many of us to go outdoors. Some went to the park while some stayed home. Then some played outdoor ladder ball and washer toss while others enjoyed being spectators and still others remained inside. Then when finally we all came inside, some wanted to play a board game around the large kitchen table while others preferred to stay in the living room.
Not once did our perfect small cozy home feel cramped. I am so grateful to God. He provided the way for us to enjoy each others company. We laughed, we ate, we played, we talked. And at last, we took a family picture. My little house did just fine. The Father worked everything out just as He always does. All He needs is a willing heart, He’ll work out the details. The Lord utilized not only our own yard but that of the neighborhood park. The weather…the fun we had outside and inside…it was all an unexpected provision.
And I am grateful.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
